🎯 Goal of this section
The Construction log module is used for the daily documentation of construction activities.
It records work performed, weather conditions, personnel, equipment, deliveries, special notes, and safety aspects.
This fulfills the requirements of HOAI and VOB regarding site documentation and evidence keeping.
Structure and purpose of the construction log
The construction log consists of individual daily reports that are stored as records in the module.
Each entry documents a specific construction day (date) with all relevant information.
Typical use cases:
- Documentation of construction progress
- Evidence for execution quality and site supervision
- Basis for change orders, billing, and defect tracking
- Source of information for the client, planners, and project management
Structure of the overview
Construction logs are displayed in a list view.
Each row corresponds to an entry (daily report) and includes, among other things:
- Column – Description
- Date – Date of the construction day
- Weather / temperature – automatic or manual entry
- Trades / people present – Overview of participants on site
- Topic / main works – Focus of the construction day
- Status – Draft or completed
💡 Tip:
Filters (e.g., time period, trade, weather) can be used to search for specific construction days or evaluate them.

Detailed view of a construction day
An opened construction log entry is divided into several sections:
A) General
- Date, location, weather, temperature
- Site management / foreman
- Attendance: companies, skilled workers, visitors
B) Working hours
- Start, end, breaks
- Downtime (e.g., weather-related, equipment failure)
C) Work performed
- Description of daily activities by trade
- e.g.:
Masonry work: Completion of basement walls
Electrical work: Laying main power lines
Roofing work: Installing the vapor barrier
D) Special notes / events
- Deviations from the plan
- Special events, incidents, inspections
- Agreements with the client or planner
E) Material deliveries
- List of all delivered materials (type, quantity, supplier)
- e.g.:
Concrete 50 m³, bricks 2,000 pcs., electrical cable 300 m
F) Equipment and machinery
- Used equipment with quantity and operating time
- e.g.: crane, vibrating plate, concrete mixer
G) Safety
- Safety inspections, issues, incidents
- Wearing PPE (helmet, high-visibility vest, shoes)
- Documentation of accidents or near misses
H) Weather conditions
- Weather trend during the day (e.g., sunny, rain, frost)
- Impact on construction execution
I) Planned work for the following day
- Preview of upcoming tasks or continuations
Example of a completed construction log
Construction site: Musterstraße 1, 12345 Musterstadt
Date: 06/06/2024
Weather: Sunny, 24 °C
Attendance: 1 site manager, 1 foreman, 10 craftsmen
Work performed:
- Completion of basement exterior walls
- Laying main power lines
- Assembly of roof structure
Special notes:
- Delivery of 50 m³ concrete, on schedule
- Structural engineer meeting with no objections
Safety:
- PPE complete, no accidents
Next day:
- Start electrical installation (ground floor)
- Continuation of roofing works
💡 Tip:
A construction log entry should always be created on the same day or completed by the following day at the latest to ensure completeness.
Photo and document attachments
- Any number of photos or PDFs can be attached via the
Filesfield. - Especially important for visual inspections, concreting work, or concealed services.
- The files remain permanently stored in the system and can be exported.
💡 Practical recommendation:
Add photos directly in the “Work performed” field – this links the visual documentation directly to the entry.
Analysis and export
Construction logs can be exported individually or in bulk:
- PDF export of an entry (with logo and layout)
- Excel export for time and resource statistics
- Consolidated report for defined time periods (e.g., week / month)
Optional attachments:
- Photos
- Material and delivery lists
- Attendance overview
Best practices
- Daily recording – no backfilling at the end of the month
- Clear structure – always use the same outline
- Attach photos – serves as evidence for quality and progress
- Document safety aspects – important for site supervision
- Archive exports regularly – as part of the construction documentation
- Avoid communication that takes place outside the construction log – document centrally
