With the AI summary, you get a brief overview of a task at the click of a button: Where does it stand, what is important, and what is still open? This saves time when you open a task for the first time or need to get back up to speed after a longer period of time. This article explains how to create the summary, what it contains, and how to use it further.
Please note
The AI summary is one of the AI features. It is available when AI is enabled in the workspace and you are allowed to view AI features. Creating a summary uses credits; see How AI credits work. AI can make mistakes. Check important statements in the task itself.
Summarize a task
- Open a task.
- Click
Summarizeat the top of the task dialog.
AI creates the summary and displays it as a Summary card at the very top of the task dialog. While the card is being created, it displays “being generated …” and the text gradually appears. It then includes the “AI-generated” label and the time, for example “a few seconds ago.”
What the summary contains
AI evaluates the task data, such as status, dates, costs, description, and comments. The structure depends on the task’s status:
- Open tasks begin with an assessment, for example “Monitor – …”, followed by the most important points and what is still open. People, tasks, and comments referred to in a sentence are linked.
- Completed tasks begin with the completion information (“Completed on … by …”) and briefly summarize what was delivered, including, for example, any deviations in costs.
Use the summary
There are four icons in the card header:
-
Copy: copies the text, for example for a comment, a meeting, or an email. -
Regenerate: creates the summary again, for example after new comments or changes to the task. This uses credits again. -
Collapse: hides the text. Only the header remains visible. -
Close: closes the card. You can open it again withSummarize.
The summary remains attached to the task and is displayed again the next time you open it, along with the time it was created. This allows you to see whether it still matches the current status.
Summarize comments
You can summarize long discussions separately from the task: In the Comments tab, AI actions > Summarize comments creates a summary with an overview, key points, and open questions, which is displayed above the comments. It also provides actions for decisions and open points. Learn more in the AI comments article.
Summarize in AI chat
Alternatively, you can ask AI chat in the task details to summarize the task or its comments. Learn more in the How smenso AI works article.

FAQ
How up to date is a summary?
It shows the status at the time it was created. The “AI-generated · … ago” label indicates when that was. Use Regenerate to update it.
Does the summary change anything about the task?
No. It only summarizes the task. The task description, dates, and comments remain unchanged.
What is the difference between this and Summarize comments?
The task summary considers the entire task. Summarize comments focuses on the discussion and provides additional actions such as decisions and open points.
