The Gantt view displays the tasks, milestones, and phases of a project on a shared timeline. This allows you to quickly identify schedules, overlaps, and dependencies and edit the schedule directly.
Gantt uses the same tasks as the other project views. Changes to start or due dates are therefore immediately reflected in the list view, the board, the timeline, and other areas.
Structure of the Gantt view
The Gantt view essentially consists of a task list, a timeline, and a toolbar.
Task list
The project’s tasks and milestones are listed on the left. Depending on the grouping, they can be organized, for example, by folders or project phases.
Important information such as the start date and due date can also be displayed and edited directly next to the tasks.
Timeline
On the right, the tasks are displayed on a horizontal timeline:
- Tasks appear as bars. Their position and length indicate the planned duration of the task.
- Milestones mark important dates or events within the project.
- Folders and phases can be displayed as summary bars above the tasks they contain.
Tasks can be moved directly on the timeline or adjusted in duration. The associated start and due dates are updated accordingly.
Toolbar
Various navigation and planning functions are available above the timeline. Among other things, you can:
- adjust the displayed time unit and zoom,
- jump to the current date,
- show or hide dependencies and connection lines,
- display the critical path,
- start automatic scheduling,
- compare saved schedule versions using baselines.

Scheduling and dependencies
Tasks and milestones can be linked to represent their chronological sequence. Gantt supports the standard dependency types:
- Finish-to-Start
- Start-to-Start
- Finish-to-Finish
- Start-to-Finish
Time lags or leads can also be taken into account for links. Dependencies can be managed graphically using the bars or via the corresponding fields in the task list.
Date constraints and automatic scheduling
Date constraints allow you to define how flexibly a task may be scheduled. For example, earliest possible dates or fixed start and end dates can be taken into account.
Automatic scheduling calculates suitable dates for tasks based on dependencies, durations, and constraints. Scheduling can be performed forwards or backwards.
Suggested changes are first shown in a preview and are only applied after you confirm them.
Critical path and baselines
The critical path shows the chain of tasks whose delay would directly affect the planned project end date. This makes it easier to identify particularly time-critical tasks.
With baselines, you can save a version of the schedule and compare it with the current plan later. This makes it visible which tasks or milestones have shifted since the saved schedule version.
Filtering, sorting, and grouping
The displayed tasks can be filtered, sorted, and grouped. This allows you to narrow down the Gantt view to specific responsibilities, priorities, folders, or other project information.
Saved views allow frequently used configurations to be opened again later.
What is the Gantt view suitable for?
The Gantt view is particularly suitable for:
- planning and monitoring tasks that build on one another over time,
- displaying project phases and milestones,
- identifying dependencies and potential scheduling bottlenecks,
- recalculating a schedule after changes or delays,
- comparing the original and current plans.
Note
Gantt is a view of the project’s existing tasks. Changes you make in Gantt therefore apply directly to the entire project and are also visible in the other views.
