You can attach files directly to tasks or link files from OneDrive/SharePoint. Task attachments are also collected in the project's Files tab, so you can quickly find them again later.
Tip
If you want to find a file quickly, use the global search (including file search + filters).
Attaching Files
There are two ways to attach files to a task:
- Directly in the task
- In the project's
Filestab
Upload a file in the task
- Open the task.
- Go to the
Filessection. - Click
Add fileor the + icon. - Select the file and upload it.
Note
The maximum file size is 500 MB.
Upload a file via the Files tab and assign it
- Open the project.

Switch to the
Filestab. -
Click
Add filein the top right. - Select the desired file.
- Then assign the file to the task: open the three-dot menu on the file and select
Assign. Then choose the desired task.
Link a file from OneDrive/SharePoint
- Open the task.
- Go to the
Filessection. - Select
OneDrive/SharePoint. - Select the file from your Microsoft 365 and confirm.
Note
The file is not copied, but remains in Microsoft 365. In smenso it is displayed as a link/attachment. Microsoft permissions still apply.
Manage attachments
Via the three-dot menu on the attachment you can – depending on your permissions:
- Download
- Delete
Attachments in the project
Task attachments are displayed in the project's Files tab.
Note
You will only see these files if you also have access to the respective task.
Attachments in the board view
In the board view, individual attachments are listed and can be downloaded or opened directly.
Attachments in the list view
In the list view, a paperclip icon is shown next to each task, along with the number of attached files.
Permissions & visibility
- You only see task attachments if you have access to the task.
- Deleting and managing is usually only possible with appropriate write or admin permissions.
- For OneDrive/SharePoint links, Microsoft permissions also apply.
Troubleshooting
Attachment is not visible
Check if you have access to the task. Alternatively, use the global search (filter: Files + if needed, In project).
OneDrive/SharePoint file won't open
Check the Microsoft sharing permissions. When connecting for the first time, a popup blocker may block the sign-in window – allow popups for smenso in your browser.
Upload fails
Check the file size (max. 500 MB) and your internet connection.
