Managing project templates

For recurring projects, using a self-created project template is a great option. Any project can be defined as a project template and used for future project creation.

Properties of project templates

• If a project is defined as a template, it is shown as a template exactly in this state when creating a project.
• Project templates are hidden by default in the usual views (list view, board view).
• If You want to see an overview of all project templates, You can display them in the portfolio:
  1. In the portfolio, open the ... options menu in the top right, next to the current view.
  2. Under Options, in the Projects section, select Project templates. Only project templates are then shown in the portfolio.
     
• If an active project is meant to become a project template, the current state should be duplicated first, so that this state can then be saved as the project template.
• The following project properties are carried over into the project template:
  • Tasks (including flavors/labels)
  • Flavors (master data)
  • Labels (master data)
  • Additional master data (project lead, budget, location, description, project goal, project benefit, hourly rate, default currency)
  • Default workflow for new tasks
  • Default template for new tasks
  • Watchers
  • Permissions (master data write access)
  • Time tracking lock property
  • Logo for printouts

Creating a project template

Any project can be defined as a template. To do so:

1. Open a project's 3-dot menu and select Manage project.
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. In the Use project as template section, enable the toggle.

Once a project has been defined as a project template, a banner is shown in the project marking it as such.
