If a new project is very similar to an existing one, you can duplicate the existing project. This creates a new project with identical master data and task folders. Tasks are also duplicated with all their properties.
Duplicating a project
There are three ways to duplicate a project:
-
In the portfolio (list view): Click the
3-dot menuon a project row in the portfolio list and select Duplicate project -
In the open project: Click the
⋯ menuat the top right next to the project name and select Duplicate project -
In the portfolio (board view): Click the
3-dot menuon a project tile and select Duplicate project -
Via the sidebar: Hover over the desired project in the left sidebar (favorites or recently opened projects), click the
3-dot menuand select Duplicate project
Options in the duplicate dialog
After selecting the option, a dialog opens with the following settings:
Setting the start date
You can set a new start date for the duplicated project under The project starts at.
Tip
If scheduled tasks should also be shifted in time based on the new start date, enable the Dates checkbox under "Duplicate the following task properties".
Duplicate the following project properties
- Set project status to "Inactive" - the new project is created as inactive immediately. Useful if you want to plan first before the project goes live.
Duplicate the following task properties
The following task properties can optionally be carried over:
- Dates (Start Dates, Due Dates, Milestones)
- Dependencies of tasks (Timeline)
- Assigned team members in tasks
- Status (Open, In Progress, Done)
- Labels
- Flavors
- Plan effort and Plan cost
- Actual effort and Actual cost
What is not duplicated?
Important
- At project level, the following are not duplicated: status reports, files and attachments
- At task level, the following are not duplicated: files and attachments, comments
Relation flavors when duplicating
Tasks with flavors of type Relation and the setting Dynamic from current project are automatically resolved when duplicating and re-linked in the duplicated project - ensuring that relations work correctly in the new project as well.
