The email address and/or login method can be changed even after the initial registration of a smenso account. The change of e-mail address or login method must be done by each member himself/herself for his/her own smenso account, as in the course of this a new password must be assigned. Or in case of a Microsoft account (personal or work) the corresponding account must be linked.
Excursus: Overview of the possible application methods
My Profile
> Authentication
shows the login method you selected when you first signed up with smenso.
The following login methods are available:
- Email address & password: The classic login method where an email address and password can be used for authentication.
- Microsoft Personal Account: To be used if you want to sign in with a personal Microsoft account, such as your @live.com or @outlook.com address.
- Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Work Account): If your company uses Microsoft products (Microsoft 365), you usually have a Microsoft work account (or "Microsoft Azure Active Directory"). You can also log in to smenso with this account.
Note: The Microsoft work account login method requires the Microsoft Azure Active Directory integration, which is an Enterprise add-on that requires a seperate fee. Please contact us for more information.
Change email address and/or sign-in method
The process of changing the email address and/or login method is the same for all initial situations.
Important information
- Any history and settings of your current smenso account (assigned tasks etc.) will be preserved.
- If your current login method is Email address & Password, both the email address and the sign-in method can be changed.
- If your current logon method is Personal Microsoft Account, both the email address and the sign-in method can be changed.
- If your current logon method is Azure Active Directory (Microsoft work account), only the email address (into another Microsoft work account) can be changed. The sign-in method cannot be changed! This is a security measure as this logon method can be forced by administrators when inviting members as the only option. If this feature is used, it must also not be possible to change it later. Please keep this in mind when deciding whether to use a Microsoft work account or not.
- In any case, you can always change your email address.
Steps to change the email / sign-in method
- Open the Admin Center ↗️ (alternatively in the app go to
Avatar
>Personal settings
) - Open
My Profile
- In the section
Authentication
, chooseChange email / sign-in method
- In the following window you can now enter your new e-mail address:
- By clicking on
Continue
the process of creating a new user account is started.
- If you only want to change your email address, choose the same sign-in method you currently use.
- If you also want to change your sign-in method, select a new sign-in method at this point.
- In the next steps you will be guided through the creation of a new smenso account. Depending on the sign-in method you choose, the steps will differ slightly, but the principle is always the same: with the new email address and/or sign-in method, your smenso account will be updated.
- After a successful walkthrough, a success message will appear and you will be redirected to
My Profile
.
This completes the process of changing your email address and/or sign-in method and you will be able to sign-in with it in the future.
Please note that you may need to sign out and sign back in once for the change to take effect for your your workspace.
Example 1: Change sign-in method to Microsoft Azure Active Directory
You currently always sign in with your email address and a self-assigned password, as you initially assigned it when you created your smenso account.
Now your organization has just launched Microsoft 365 company-wide and everyone has a Microsoft work account with which they can sign in to all internal Microsoft services, but also many other company tools.
You want to take advantage of this as well and only use the same Microsoft 365 account to sign in for smenso as well.
We got you covered! Enter the assistant to change your email address and/or sign-in method as described above and enter the email address of your Microsoft work account here:
In the next step select the option Continue with Azure Active Directory
:
In the next step you will be redirected to the familiar Microsoft login page where you have to enter the password of your M365 / Microsoft work account. Enter your first name / last name again.
This completes the wizard and your profile has been updated with the new email address and login method. From now on you can log in with you M365 account 💪.
Give authorization
You may see an intermediate prompt during the Azure Active Directory sign-in that smenso is requesting permission from Microsoft to use the Microsoft work account for sign-in in the future. The authorization must be granted in order to continue the process. Maybe smenso is still displayed here as "Not verified". This is not relevant for the process to continue flawlessly, but anyway we are in consultation with Microsoft, as to why this is (incorrectly) shown sometimes.
Example 2: Change email address when logging in with email
You currently always sign in with your email address and a self-assigned password, as you initially assigned it when you created your smenso account.
However, you initially registered with a private email address and would prefer to use your business email address for your smenso account and to receive notifications.
No problem! Enter the assistant to change your email address and/or sign-in method as described above and enter your business email address here:
In the next step choose Continue with User/Password
, as the sign-in method should remain the same. The goal is only to associate the new email address with your smenso account.
In the next step you have to verify your email address and enter your first name / last name (again). The assistant is finished and your profile has been updated with the new email address. You can log in with it from now on 💪.
