In the Portfolio Timeline, you can specifically filter, sort, and group the displayed projects. This allows you to adapt the timeline to different analyses and perspectives.
You can find the corresponding functions above the timeline under Projects, Filter, Sort, and Group.
Select projects
Using Projects, you can first specify which projects should be included in the Portfolio Timeline.
This allows you to limit the display to a specific selection of projects before applying any additional filters.
The number next to Projects indicates how many projects are currently selected.
Filter the timeline
Using Filter, you can specifically narrow down the displayed content. The familiar smenso filter logic is available for this purpose.
Depending on the project information used and the current display, you can, for example, filter by project or task properties.
Multiple filters can be combined. The number next to Filter shows how many filters are currently applied.
Tip
Combine the project selection with additional filters if, for example, you only want to view a specific part of your portfolio or projects with certain properties.
Sort projects and tasks
Using Sort, you define the order in which the elements are displayed in the timeline.
In the Portfolio Timeline, different sorting options can be used for projects and tasks. The criteria currently in use are displayed directly in the sorting field, for example:
Projects: End date, Tasks: Start date
This allows you, for example, to sort projects by their chronological progression while the tasks displayed within Big Picture are simultaneously sorted by a different criterion.
Group projects
Using Group, you can group projects based on common properties.
If no grouping is active, No grouping is displayed in the selection. If you select a grouping property, the projects are grouped according to this information.
Which grouping options are available depends on the information used in the workspace and in the projects.
Combine filters, sorting, and grouping
Project selection, filters, sorting, and grouping can be combined with one another. This allows you to tailor the Portfolio Timeline precisely to the respective use case.
For example, you can first select only certain projects, additionally filter them, group them by a project property, and sort them chronologically within the display.
Note
Your selected filter, sorting, and grouping settings can be saved as a custom view. This allows you to quickly reopen frequently used timeline configurations later.
